National Moth Night, 9th July 2005

The Lancashire Branch observed National Moth Night by running a couple of light traps in the car park at Warton Crag Quarry.

Deilephila porcellus<br>Sphingidae<br><br>A rather worn specimen which has lost most of the pinky red colour from the body and ends of the wings.

Biston betularia<br>Geometridae;<br><br>In populated areas a sooty black form of this moth can be found, though the frequency of that form is declining in recent years as the urban environment is being cleaned up.
